Bay area native Paolo Galvez started his career in personal training while he was earning his B.S. in Kinesiology & Exercise Science from San Francisco State University. He’d originally set his sights on becoming a Physical Therapist (his wife is one), but decided to switch to personal training after seeing first-hand that his interests were not perfectly aligned with the profession.

I enjoyed the aspect of working with people,” he says. “However the drawback to being a Physical Therapist is that by the time you see a patient it’s too late to prevent the injury that brought them in. As a trainer, I can help people prevent the injury in the first place.
Paolo gives an example. “I had a female client who was going on a vacation, and quite nervous about hurting her back pulling heavy suitcases off the conveyer belt. We worked on squat and pull exercises so she’d be prepared. When she came back from the trip to see me, she was all smiles– it had been a piece of cake.”
